Making A True Thanksgiving

Want a true Thanksgiving? Then don't be a thankless fool!

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:21-22)

Every fourth Thursday in November, score of homes race to put a feast together, gather family and friends, and observe family traditions. We call this day Thanksgiving but in reality we give little thanks. Would you like to make this a real Thanksgiving?

True thanksgiving starts with acknowledging and honoring the creator and sole owner of all we have -- The Lord! Boastful and proud people do not recognize this simple but powerful truth. A true spirit of gratitude begins with with a simple confession that all we have or every hope to have is His and not our own.

As important as paying tribute to God for his gracious gifts, it is still not enough for a true Thanksgiving. You need to honor God. There is no better way to honor God than to accept his Son, Jesus Christ, as both your Savior and your Lord. All the thankfulness offered in words or prayers are futile if you spur the only gift of grace that can restore you to the right fellowship with God.

When you have these two elements, acknowledgement and honor, then the third step to a true Thanksgiving is possible and flows from the naturally. Be thankful. The expression of being thankful can take many forms.  It can burst forth in joy, song, prayer, and testimony. Two very effective manners of expressing our gratitude is to share our blessings with others and serving our Lord by serving others. However, the  best way to make a True Thanksgiving is to have a Thanksgiving Heart Everyday.

A Great Christmas Gift!
