Everyone you meet today...

Take the good and leave the bad. 

Everyone you meet today will have something to share with you -- something they will teach you either by words or actions. Only absorb those things that are good and shun those that are bad. Model only the good and choose to leave the bad.

The Differences Between Mistakes and Poor Choices

Many people do not understand the difference between a mistake and a choice.  Andy Andrews in this book The Noticer give us a great example.

“If you are lost, wandering through a forest in the dark, unable to see, unaware that a cliff is nearby, and you stumble off the cliff and break your neck, that is a mistake. 
But let’s say it’s broad daylight. You are meandering about in a forest you’ve been told never to enter. There are No Trespassing signs everywhere, but you think you can slip in and slip out and not get caught. Now, again let’s say you fall off a cliff and break your neck…that, my friend, was not a mistake. It was a conscious choice.” (Pg. 117-118)

Wrong doing by choice demands you "Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance." You do so by making right choices and by accepting personal responsibility for the wrong. 

If it's questionable then...

Take the high road. If it's questionable, a choice between definitely right and maybe right, always choose what you know to be right. The high road is often more difficult and demands almost always greater faith; but it will never lead you into the deep sewer-waters of sin.

"...choose you this day whom ye will serve..." Joshua 24:15

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17

Make the Right Heart Choices

When it comes to the desires of the heart choose wisely. The heart can be deceitful. If you are going to set your heart on anything be sure that it is the will of Lord and that the desire breaks no precepts or principles set forth in scripture. Be careful also of your emotions for they often overrule good sense when it comes to matters of the heart.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23  

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah  17:9  

Today's Prayer: Lord make the desires of my heart right. Do not allow me to give a foothold for the devil to tempt me. Amen

Yes! You Can!

Do not let the devil or the world deceive you into believing you are trapped or predestined to a certain way of life. God has the power and he will grant the grace to change you and any state of affairs you may find yourself. There only two requirements. You must be willing to change and seek by faith his help.

A small note: The role of a good Bible believing and Bible practicing church can be a great source of encouragement. 

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. -Philippians 4:13

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: -1 Peter 5:8

Choose to Change

In his book, The Noticer: Sometimes, all a person needs is a little perspective. , Andy Andrews hit the nail on the head with this simple but true statement:

“Most people think it takes a long time to change. It doesn’t. Change is immediate! Instantaneous! It may take a long time to decide to change…but change happens in a heartbeat!

The single most important step to changing one's life is found in the choosing to change. When anyone chooses in their heart to be different, then, and only then, can the Spirit work and God's grace is fully available.  

This day I choose to change ______________ (You fill in the blank).

Somewhere But Not Here!

Somewhere today rain is falling, the night still rules, and joy is missing. However, that somewhere doesn't have to be here! Choose not to let doom-and-gloom live in your heart and rule your attitude.

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24

Take care who you allow to influence your life*

Take care who you allow to influence your life for who you allow to influence your life will have some control of your life. The sphere of those who exercise influence is broader than you may think.  It includes your family and friends but also includes your enemies and those you may dislike. A person that allows his enemies to determine his or her attitude or his or her decisions allowed them, at that point to control their life. Of course, not all influence from others is undesirable. The loving influence of a father or mother can have positive results and the encouragement of a loving friend can determine a good attitude.

The choices of who you allow to influence you are yours and yours alone. Your choices will determine the paths of your life. Most of those paths can be altered and corrected with the exception of one. Who you trust to determine your eternal destiny will have an everlasting affect. The ultimate and only influencer for eternal directions is the Lord Jesus Christ because he alone holds the keys eternity.

“How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him…” 1 Kings 18:21

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

The Big Word "IF"

Today I am reading from C. Spurgeon's Morning and Evening Devotionals. Hope you enjoy this wisdom as much as I did. -Jim

If it is that you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 1 Peter 2:3

“If” — then, this is not a matter to be taken for granted concerning everyone of the human race. “If” — then there is a possibility and a probability that some may not have tasted that the Lord is gracious. “If” — then this is not a general but a special mercy; and it is needful to enquire whether we know the grace of God by inward experience. There is no spiritual favour which may not be a matter for heart searching.

But while this should be a matter of earnest and prayerful enquiry, no one ought to be content while there is any such thing as an “if” about his having tasted that the Lord is gracious. A jealous and holy distrust of self may give rise to the question even in the believer’s heart, but the continuance of such a doubt would be an evil indeed. We must not rest without a desperate struggle to clasp the Saviour in the arms of faith, and say, “I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to keep what I have committed to him.” Do not rest, oh believer, until you have a full assurance of your interest in Jesus. Let nothing satisfy you until, by the infallible witness of the Holy Spirit bearing witness with your spirit, you are certified that you are a child of God. Oh, do not trifle here; let no “perhaps” and “peradventure” and “if” and “maybe” satisfy your soul. Build on eternal verities, and truly build upon them. Get the sure mercies of David, and surely get them. Let your anchor be cast into what is within the veil, and see to it that your soul is linked to the anchor by a cable that will not break. Advance beyond these dreary “ifs”; do not remain any more in the wilderness of doubts and fears; cross the Jordan of distrust, and enter the Canaan of peace, where the Canaanite still lingers, but where the land does not cease to flow with milk and honey.

THE BIGGEST FOOL IN THE WORLD.

By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. Hebrews 11:24-26 (ESV)

If you had asked the Egyptians who he was, they would have said he was THE BIGGEST FOOL IN THE WORLD.

“Why,” they would say, “look at the opportunity that man had! He might have been commander of the Egyptian army, he might have been on the throne, swaying the sceptre over the whole world, if he hadn’t identified himself with those poor, miserable Hebrews! Think what an opportunity he has lost, and what a privilege he has thrown away!” He had dropped out of the public mind for forty years, and they didn’t know what had become of him, but God had His eye upon him. He was the very man of all others that God wanted, and when he met God with that question, “Who am I?” it didn’t matter who he was but who his God was. When men learn the lesson that they are nothing and God is everything, then there is not a position in which God cannot use them.

The Quest Today!

Wisdom begins with an awe of God that turns into trust and worship. True worship results in obedience and obedience results in right choices. 

Some say wisdom cannot be found. However the Bible says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). The quest of today and everyday is to seek wisdom.

The Power of Choice

The Power of Choice 

My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. Proverbs 1:10 ESV

The first and most important lesson in life's wisdom is to recognize the power of choice.  Every person has it.  Every person is held accountable to it.  It is a gift from God.  You will often execute the gift of choice.  Choose wisely because consequences follow your choices.

Ronald Reagan learned that it’s better to make a decision than to let others make it for you. When he was a kid, his aunt took him to a shoe store and had the shoemaker to make him some custom-made shoes. He was asked if he wanted square toed or round toed shoes. He couldn’t make up his mind and when he went to pick them up one was round toed and one was square toed. It was a lesson the shoemaker was teaching him about making his own decisions.
